By now you must have heard the news: NYC has named Taylor Swift as its new tourism ambassador. NYC & Co., New York City’s official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, explained in a press release: “As New York City’s Global Welcome Ambassador, Taylor will showcase the City’s unparalleled vibrancy that inspired her to write “Welcome To New York,” reinforced by the refrain “It’s been waiting for you.””
My question is: Why not Jay Z or Alicia Keys? Or even Frank Sinatra? Ok, Frank is dead, but with new advancements in hologram technology, Old Blue Eyes could still be a better ambassador, IMHO.
Sure, perhaps NYC is trying to capitalize on younger visitors…who love T-Swift. But lets take a moment to consider one of the videos they are using to promote NYC: NYC Vocabulary. In this gem, TS explains to new comers about this amazing place called “bodega.” It is open “almost 24 hours” and you can find “almost everything” there.
Say, remember the time you applied for and got a job you had no skills or experience to do, but “you were so enthusiastic and vocal and willing to learn?” Yeah, it looks like that’s how TS got this gig.
“I’m still learning, but I’m so enthusiastic about this city that when I love something, I’m very vocal about it,” Swift said on ABC’s Good Morning America.
If you must, go check out all of her videos here: http://www.nycgo.com/w2ny/?cid=soc_twitter-ts#welcome-to-new-york
Fine, TS can be ambassador of NY, but Jay Z and Alicia Keys are still king and queen:
And Frank will always be The Man:
